Design a series of tools that the Future of Work team at Herman Miller can use to expose customers to the world of scenario thinking, and stimulate deeper thoughts and reflections.

Solution:
An extensive booklet, video, and interactive presentation were developed to tell the three separate scenarios that the Future of Work team, and their experts/researchers developed.

Herman Miller: The Design Yard Story

Herman Miller takes a unique look at how and where they work

Objective:
Tell Herman Miller’s story of extensive research, expert knowledge, and the redesign of their Design Yard in order to give people a glimpse into what Herman Miller is all about.

Solution:
To capture the look and feel of the Design Yard, and the type of work that happens there we partnered with Mark Mahaney, and The Work, which resulted in great editorial photography and videography of the spaces. Using those assets, and working with a copywriter from Herman Miller, we were able to create a small take away book, as well as a short video.

Beanilla

Premium vanilla company seeks to share their passion

Objective:
Create a comprehensive story of Beanilla Company, the vanilla bean trade, and their globally sourced products into a brochure to be distributed with product shipments.

Solution:
Experiencing and using premium vanilla was a first for the studio, however it instantly raised our expectations and desire when cooking with vanilla. There are many global regions that produce vanilla, each slightly unique from one another which in turn can produce different results and taste. It’s this knowledge, global reach, and personal farming relationships of Beanilla that needed to be shared. The solution was a quaint, tangible brochure that reflected the rich qualities of Beanilla, their process, and attention to detail. A random pixel layered pattern was printed on each page to subtly hint at the vanilla bean caviar.

Furnishing high performing offices.

Objective:
Create an informative catalog for Herman Miller’s Small and Medium Business customers that shares Herman Miller’s research on how people work, and case studies of successful small and medium-sized businesses.

Solution:
A clean catalog packed with useful knowledge and furniture solutions that help offices perform at a high level by facilitating collaboration and innovation. Herman Miller’s knowledge was showcased with a series of illustrations, that were developed with Daniel Carlsten, and photography by Mark Mahaney. The end result is a smart catalog, showcasing high-quality, functional, and versatile products that will enhance and grow with your small or medium business.

Local wealth management with personable service.

Objective:
As an advisor partner to Raymond James, Dangel Ladd Fortino was seeking an identity that would create a strong credible presence in the West Michigan region.

Solution:
Utilizing the iconic building in which the firm resides, the new identity for Dangel Ladd Fortino reflects a prominent and credible presence. The marketing brochure highlights the teams strategic approach to investing, while remaining human and approachable in both content and design.

Skoops

Homemade treats and good eats.

Objective:
Refresh the Skoops branding, signage, and menu board strategy.

Solution:
A hometown favorite, Skoops has been making ice cream and offering favorites like coney dogs for over 20 years. A Skoops brand refresh was necessary to better align its branding with its sister stores, improve the customer experience of navigating their lengthy menu, and make it easy for Skoops to update their menu board on a regular basis. We developed a new logo and signage that speaks to the fun summer nights that Skoops represents to local customers. Their menu boards were developed as chalkboards so that whenever there’s a new flavor of ice-cream, or special that they’re offering, the menu board can be updated easily. A new drive-thru sign was developed to match the new look.

A memorable and unique experience for furnishing small businesses quickly and affordably.

Objective:
Create an identity that consistently and clearly represents the S3 program while complying with Herman Miller’s brand guidelines.

Solution:
The S3 identity is a combination of S3, the S3 tagline, and Herman Miller logomark or logotype. Multiple configurations were created to use over a large
variety of mediums and applications. Herman Miller always comes first in hierarchy to express that S3 is a focus of a larger entity.

Blueberry Haven

Great design is good for business, and good business tastes great.

Objective:
Help create a cohesive brand with and all of the pieces that a fast-growing West Michigan company needs.

Solution:
Simplified branding, with an attention to detail, helped shape Blueberry Haven into a crave-worthy company. A small-sized catalog was created that allows for the photography to speak for itself. Product packaging, playful descriptions, and pricing information round out each product. When demand and sales continually grew, it was necessary to expand product offerings, and therefore, we created a new, more robust catalog the following year.

Pretty meets practical with plantation shutters.

Objective:
Create an identity for a new shutter company that has a focus on quality, aesthetic, and ease of installation. Translate the identity to new literature pieces and a new website with custom ordering capabilities.

Solution:
A hand-lettered logo in a bold green conveys a custom, high-end brand while lending freshness to the traditional, southern, window-treatment industry. Layout, copy, and design for a multi-layered website was created to highlight the benefits of the Panama Bay Shutter products and promote online ordering.

Paradigm Jet Management

Positioning a brand to reflect their premier experience.

Objective:
Elevating the brand of a private jet charter company to communicate the elite level of their company and services.

Solution:
The retouched identity utilizes a sophisticated serif typeface, subtle gradient reflecting the horizon, and “P” mark with an extended stroke symbolizing a jet stream to evoke the elegance of the brand. Through the use of strategic images and copy, stationery, website, brochure and aircraft inserts were developed that effectively bring about feelings of status, safety and comfort that come with flying on a Paradigm jet.

SAVVY magazine contains profile interviews with small business owners, articles that deal with small business concerns, and Herman Miller S3 product information. More than just a catalog, Savvy includes useful and interesting knowledge relevant to today’s small businesses.

An up-to-date brand for a refreshingly forward-thinking financial company.

Objective:
Rebrand Retirement Wealth Advisors to communicate the sophisticated, professional, and contemporary nature of the company and their services.

Solution:
A slab serif typeface was used to connote a well educated company. A bold company anagram and a bright blue flood of color expresses the fresh thinking, big ideas, and confidence that makes up the company. A complete overhaul of the website’s content, organization, and design renewed the company’s online presence.

Objective:
Create a labeling system that can work across all of Sweet Temptations product packaging and a website with an ecommerce solution that emphasize the fact that their products are homemade.

Bringing a fun yet strategic set of colors into the labels, Sweet Temptations is able to distinguish their ice creams and candies based on flavor. The website was a chance to show the range in homemade products through beautiful photography and enable the consumer to purchase any of the products at home in the online store.

Participate in a fun, annual design contest for Herman Miller Healthcare by creating a wall-calendar to the size specifications set by previous years. The winner’s calendar design is published and distributed.

Solution:
This winning entry from 2012 is a spirited calendar featuring an interlocking pattern that was inspired by the fine craftsmanship that Nemschoff is known for. Each month comes together resembling wood joinery.

A mission and an identity that bridges ideas and spurs thoughtful conversation.

Objective:
Design an identity that represents the core mission of The Colossian Forum, which is to be a host for conversations about faith and science.

Solution:
The Colossian Forum identity combines the atomic and holy trinity symbols to represent scientific knowledge and religous beliefs not only coexisting but holding together. This new symbol represents the discourse between the two ideaologies and the harmonious position that can be reached.

Objective:
Rebrand a custom cabinet and furniture company that conveys their reputation for a very fine quality of work.

Solution:
Starting with a typography style that is strong and simple while also having interesting details, their rebranding began with stationery elements. Business cards were developed to be traditional while also maintaining a modern edge. Small takeaway booklets were also developed to showcase some of their furniture lines, as well as product pages that contained a deeper level of information.

Issachar Fund Initiative

Uniting faith, science and culture.

Objective:
Design an identity that conveys the mission of the Issachar Fund Initiate, which provides grants and programs to Christian scholars, leaders, and approved organizations that seek to charitably engage, patiently reflect upon, and thoughtfully dialogue with the norms, practices, and values as mediated to us by our scientific culture.

Solution:
The seven root-like segments are symbolic of the seven continents, which represent the global perspective of Issachar. These segments come together to form a trinity-inspired leaf icon, representing the three main aspects of IFI: science, faith, and culture.

Caregiver Resource Network

A non-profit with a big heart.

Objective:
Bring relevance and awareness to a new non-profit organization focusing on the family members, “the caregivers,” of dementia patients. With a small budget, the creativity needed to focus on large impact within economical methods.

Solution:
The chosen identity reflects the warmth and love these caregivers continuously give. Simple 2-color business cards were created and produced using a nice and thick paper stock, and a label was designed to be used as an identifier on a multitude of pieces, including folders, envelopes, and future marketing materials.

Objective:
Rebrand and create a marketing plan for a small financial advisor team based in St. Louis, MO.

Solution:
A new identity and system of assets aims to showcase the worth that Plaza Financial offers their clients. To add a tactile quality to their marketing materials, the logomark portion of their branding was embossed onto both the business cards as well as the outside of their folder system. The folder system is customizable to their client, and offers quick way-finding in the half-circle cut out.

Plan and art direct a refresh of the photography available for Herman Miller storage products, and design a single brochure to encompass all of the storage solutions Herman Miller offers.

Solution:
Using the Herman Miller Design Yard as a backdrop allowed us to create a variety of settings, and stay within budget. Utilizing these environmental images, as well as clean white-sweep imagery we also shot, we created a catalog that includes all of the storage solutions Herman Miller offers. It provides an overview look at each product line, which can help users in determining which line would best fit their need before delving deeper.

The Herman Miller Education team wanted to share their research and promote discussion about learning through an interactive presentation that salespeople, dealers, and customers could utilize.

Solution:
Working with illustrator Mark Allen Miller, A visual representation was developed for each of Herman Miller Education’s five Certainties for the Future of Learning, and used in the creation of an interaction presentation. The interactive presentation was also developed into banners that could be utilized during workshops.

A simplified diagram was created to show the ways in which they measure themselves, and using the color system of their diagram, specific case studies are shown that exemplify the ideals of their measurement.

A short description

Objective:
Create an open information source where investors concerned with the safety of their money could go to for reliable information on annuities. The site needed to be simple, and easy to use as it would reach an older target audience. The client also thought that a mascot character would be a memorable part of the site design.

Solution:
A warm and inviting site that uses a blog approach for ease of topic updates, while also incorporating an extensive search amongst existing annuities. The
Annuity Gator mascot balances sophistication with honesty as each annuity is carefully analyzed and reported on within the site.

A stylish, young, and energetic visualization of Dutchsurf combines the “d” and “the ”s” letterforms into a single free flowing logo, creating an iconic
water drop.

An old icon becomes a new brand.

Objective:
Design a new business identity and brand for five smart, environmentally sound architects coming together within the Fenn Valley region of Michigan to collaborate as a team on large projects.

Solution:
An iconic mill in the region was used as a symbol to brand this group of architects. The bold presence of the design elements allowed Fenns Design Mill to proudly stamp their concepts, in-progress work, and completed projects.

Herman Miller 10-Day Lead Time Catalog

Furniture; quick and easy.

Objective:
Design a catalog specifically for Herman Miller’s clients who need their products fast, displaying all products that are available for the quick-ship program.

Solution:
The look and feel of receiving a package in the mail was the idea that this catalog was developed from. Like opening a package, the user rips through packaging tape in order to open the catalog for the first time. Strategically placed short-folds of some interior pages allow a 3rd page to display color options next to their respective products.

Solution:
Each jersey has its own theme inspired by bike components and accessories. In the spirit of safety and fun, a bright palette of colors were used that help the cyclists to be visible when on the road.

A smart offering.

Objective:
Design a catalog that showcases the line of products geared specifically towards Herman Miller’s Education clients, includes case studies, as well as their knowledge.

Solution:
Herman Miller Education’s six characteristics that reflect and support changing learning spaces are the building blocks to their knowledge as well as their extensive product offering. Types of products are broken down into categories, and a tab system was developed for way-finding. Knowledge articles are shown within related product sections, and show a deeper understanding of the user’s needs.
